HELP PROTECT WOMEN & GIRLS
HELP PROTECT WOMEN AND GIRLS FROM SEXUAL VIOLENCE Every day, every hour, rape is being used as a weapon of war. In many countries in the world, women and girls are suffering brutal physical and sexual violence in alarming numbers, whether their countries are at war or not. The violence ruins lives, destroys families and destabilises communities. It breaks women’s spirits, leaving them traumatised and shamed, rejected and alone. You can make sure that these women do not have to live through this alone. You can ensure they receive the help they need. Help us reach $25 000 by the end of the year to provide support for survivors of sexual violence. $65 could help provide group therapy and psycho-social counselling for women traumatised by sexual violence. $95 could help train 15 people as women’s rights activists, helping to change men and boys’ attitudes towards violence and abuse. $186 could help provide two months’ accommodation and skills training for young mothers and victims of sexual abuse who have nowhere else to turn. $250 could help train 15 police officers in India to respond appropriately to women survivors of violence. Mariam is a young survivor of sexual abuse in Mali, one of the poorest countries in the world. Three in every four people live in poverty and up to 50 per cent of women have experienced domestic violence and gang rapes in Mali. A quarter of girls in Mali are forced into marriage before the age of 15. Mariam was kidnapped and gang raped by a group of men over a number of nights. “There were four of them – they forced me into their vehicle and chained my arms. Three other girls were also there…each time they came in groups of three, four and sometimes five.” Sadly, for many women like Mariam, there is no place to turn for support. But with your help, UN Women can be there for more and more women. More funding is needed to help women and girls like Mariam and set up more specialist units for their support. Please send a gift of $65, $95 or $186 right away, to help reach our goal of $25 000 to provide victims of violence with the support they need. Your donation is powerful. DONATE TODAY to change the lives of thousands of women and girls across the world by offering medical care, counselling, access to justice, safety and security and the opportunity to create a better future for themselves.
