When Jodee gave birth to Nathaniel in August 2012, it was not long before she began to worry. “The newborn hearing screening confirmed that something was not right with the baby’s hearing,” she says. From that point it was like a roller coaster ride. - At one month results showed moderate to severe bilateral hearing loss. - At two months he began wearing bilateral hearing aids. - Next, Nathaniel was diagnosed with Large Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome, which meant that his hearing could decrease over time. - Then at about five months our team at Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) began working with him. RIDBC helps hundreds of children like Nathaniel by delivering a tailored program of education and therapy services into the homes of children with hearing or vision loss. Where these children live in rural, remote or regional areas of Australia, RIDBC uses high-quality video conferencing technology to overcome the tyranny of distance. Please donate today to help children like Nathaniel access the specialist services they need wherever they are in Australia. With your support, we can break down the barriers of hearing and vision loss for children wherever they are in Australia.
