Mayor's Appeal

The Warrumbungle Shire Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal aims to provide a ‘one stop shop’ where members of the public can donate money to assist residents from the affected communities of Coonabarabran, Bugaldie and Baradine. Proceeds of the Appeal will be directed to supporting the catering needs of BlazeAid volunteers, who will assist landholders with repair and replacement of fences. Five local charity agencies will also receive and distribute funds directly to the Bushfire affected residents, being Centacare, ADRA Australia, St Vincent de Paul, Barnardos and the DPI Fodder Drive. The Wambelong fire that started on 12 January in the Warrumbungle National Park has destroyed over 50 homes and 54,000 hectares of land. The fire continues to burn in rugged bush-land in the Warrumbungle National Park and surrounding pastoral areas. The extent of the fire and the destruction in terms of loss of property, stock and destruction of wildlife is unprecedented in the area. NSW Rural Fire Service crews have been supported in the field by 18 water bombing aircraft, bulldozers, graders and bulk water carriers. Volunteer firefighters from the local communities have been supported by others travelling from the Far North Coast, Mid North Coast, Clarence Valley, Northern Tablelands and the Sydney Basin. Local residents have also rallied to volunteer in supporting the RFS crews and the fire fighting efforts. The Wambelong Bushfire is declared a Natural Disaster by the NSW Government.
